With that being said, we no longer go to these attractions any more. In past years we've been to all the "must see" sites and / or tourists attractions.the "Cherokee Museum", " Unto These Hills", and their living history demonstration. Not us.we've been going to the town of Cherokee yearly, for the last 35 plus years. I think you could easily make a full day of it and see a lot in the process Edited: 7 years agoĪs you've noticed several folks have a negative attitude towards Cherokee in general. Across the street from the museum is a gift shop with native american crafts. There is a Cherokee Museum that is very interesting as well. Not sure exactly how much further the drive is after that. So from Newfound Gap Overlook, it will be about 35 minutes to CherokeeĪlong the way you will pass Mingus Mill and the Oconoluftee Visitor Center with the mountain farm museum.īoth are well worth the stops. If the clouds are low, do not bother walking up the path as visibility will be non existent. This is the only trail that I get out of breath on as the air is very thin. 5 mile hike up to the dome is very steep but it is paved. The drive time from Gatlinburg to Cherokee is about an hourĪ stop at Newfound Gap Overlook will not take much time as everything is on the parking lot areaĬlingmans Dome is about a twenty minute drive from hwy 441 (if I remember correctly) The views from the parking area are very nice.
